STAFF REPORT <br />.CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: August'9, 2007 <br />Application Number: 2007-0806B <br />Property Location: 508-508 % Lindsey <br />Property Owner: NNN <br />Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Park LHD <br />Rating: non contributing <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT: Bunker Young House is an American <br />Four Square built between 1902 and 1903. Mr. Bunker was the Chief of Police for several years. - <br />APPLICATION ITEM: Removal of aluminum siding and replace with smooth cement fiber product <br />to match lap, width and texture of original siding. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: II Existing Structures A. Building Materials <br />Original exterior building materials in the district include brick, stucco, clapboard, wood shingles and <br />brick or stone masonry. In some instances vinyl, composite and aluminum siding have been applied over <br />the original material <br />Required: Original exterior building materials shall be retained when possible. Deterioration of wood <br />materials shall be presented though repair, cleaning and painting. The existing architectural detail around <br />windows, porches, doors and eaves shall be retained or replaced by replicas of the same design when <br />deteriorated beyond repair.... <br />Recommended: Whenever possible, the original building materials should be restored. When <br />maintaining or repairing original siding is not feasible aluminum, vinyl or composite siding may be used. <br />When used over wood surfaces, the siding should be the same size and style as the original wood. Every <br />effort should be made to retain original trim around windows, doors, cornices, gables, eaves and other <br />architectural features.... <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff can not make a recommendation since it does not know the <br />condition of the original siding and can not make a determination at this time. Staff requests that it be <br />allowed to work with NNN to make recommendations and return its recommendations to either the <br />Standards and Maintenance Committee or the Commission. <br />
