*Yrr,
.i,.
C!-
2 0 0 7• I N
November 2007
Dear Fellow South Bender,
S O U
On behalf of the planners of City Celebration, a joint effort of the Historic'Preservation
Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County and the Office of the Mayor of South
Bend, I wish to invite you to participate in our next event! Our tenth in a total of eleven
events throughout 2007, our November event is Thanks and Giving. Like all City
Celebration events, Thanks and Giving is scheduled for the 29th of the month; thus
November 29, 2007.
The inspiration in planning City Celebration was to feature our many community
treasures, educational opportunities, and our shared local history in our dynamic home
town of South Bend. Thanks and Giving is unique on our calendar in that it is not
specifically an event per se. Instead, Thanks and Giving is intended to be a celebration
of the generosity of the people of South Bend. On November 29th, to both usher in the
holiday season and to demonstrate the kind and giving spirit of South Bend, citizens are
encouraged to do a good deed, share a kind word with a neighbor, volunteer some time to
a cause or organization that's important to them, or show, appreciation for a good deed
done previously with a thank you note; most importantly involve the whole family in
whatever you choose to do. Children can paint pictures for nursing home residents, help
to bake cookies for delivery to the nearest fire house, or choose the toys that your family
donates to a local shelter or agency. Organizations, scout troops and neighborhood
associations can plan activities together! It is not the size of the gift or gesture, but the
gesture itself that matters.
If you'd like additional ideas or suggestions, please visit the website of our partner:
www.makeadifferencemichiana.com. Their website can put you in contact with
organizations that need your time and assistance, and may also inspire you to take on a
project or good deed of your very own! Thank you for making the time to celebrate
Thanks and Giving with all of your friends and neighbors here in South Bend.
Best wishes for happy holidays!
V:
City Celebration 2007
574-235-9798 F: 574-235-9578
