The "invisible storm windows" presented in the brochure of Allied Windows Inc. involve three
problems with regard to exterior storm windows for my bay area:
(1) The material of the frame of those Allied storm windows is aluminum.
(2) The storm windows on the upper and the lower sash would form one single flat surface, thus
eliminating the beautiful light effects of the existing windows.
(3) The storm windows are 7/16 inches thick and could not be properly placed on the existing
window frames of the bay area.
To conclude, the three documents do not.offer a comprehensive and satisfactory solution to my
bay window problem: Exterior storm windows that, by the way, my house never had are
technically not feasible and would harm the current historic aesthetics of the exterior of the bay
area. Interior storm windows that are not at the discretion of the Historic Preservation
Commission impair the quality of life of the owner. Furthermore, the articles discussed above
provide no proof that, in terms of thermal and infiltration loss, restored single -pane windows be
equal to or better than double -pane low -E replacement windows.
The upcoming session of the HPC will be the seventh meeting of dealing with my window
problem. I very much regret that the Commission denied all my proposals, even my pragmatic
proposal of an experiment, and; until now, has not offered any positive, comprehensive solution to
my window problem.
I, therefore, cannot by submit the following proposal that, in my view, meets the criteria of
sustainability and authenticity:
To replace the four windows of the bav_ area with Marvin windows as indicated in the enclosed
product specification:
• Wood ultimate insert double hung window
The daylight openings of this window (i.e., sashes) are:
Width: 30 5/8 " (existing window/sashes: 31 1/4 ")
• Height: 37 3/8 " (existing window/sashes: 39 ")
The insulated glass (two glasses) is upgraded to Low E TI with Argon gas.
Price of one window: $558.48.
Sincerely,
Georges Enderle
Enclosure .
Marvin window specification
(Photos and further documentation were submitted in previous sessions.)
