LANDMARKS COMMITTEE MEETING March 7, 2007 OFFICE OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Linda Riley, Chairperson, Gerald Ujdak, Timothy Klusczinski, Joan Downs-Krostenko, Todd Zeiger. Catherine Hostetler, Director Chairperson Linda Riley called the meeting to order at 9:05 am and solicited comments from the committee concerning the on-site visit on Monday, March 5 to Marquette School. Timothy Klusczinski noted that the building was in pristine condition that there wasn't a crack in a wall or in the foundations. Jerry countered that the windows in the auditorium had been partially covered by the School Corporation and that there were additions to the school in the 1940s and 1950s. Joan Downs-Krostenko recommended that a PR campaign be initiated to draw in support from the HPC, the public (friends of Marquette School), the School Board and the Common Council to save the school. Members of the Commission should also be at the Montessori informational meeting Thursday evening at 5:30 at Marquette School. Timothy Klusczinski suggested that both the staff and the landmarks committee prepare a report on Marquette School to support a recommendation for the land marking of Marquette School to the HPC at the March 19 meeting. Todd Zeiger motioned that Marquette School be recommended to the HPC as a local landmark. Jerry Ujdak seconded the motion. The motion passed the Committee unanimously. Catherine Hostetler was then instructed to contact Derek Dieter, Dr. Robert Zimmerman that this would be coming before the Commission. Charlotte Pfeifer and John Strauss should be contacted after the Commission vote on 3/19/2007.
