which was amenably appropriate to that particular historical period and style. In fact if
one does any serious research in the architectural booklets that illuminate the various
parts of the style you will not find Scamozzi anywhere. That doesn't mean that they
didn't happen and that they weren't also done and they are as people have said interesting
and unique, there's no denying that; however, what was replaced was stylistically
appropriate and correct as far as the style concerned and I will continue to stand on that. .
LYNN PATRICK: I think we are concluded with 840 Park Avenue.
JOANN SPORLEDER: No, I don't think we are. Now that we have denied it what are
the instructions to do next? We have given no instructions, we have simply denied it.
LYNN PATRICK: They can call Catherine and talk to her about submitting a petition.
JOANN SPORLEDER:- To do what?
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Put them back up.
JOANN SPORLEDER: If they decide they're not willing to do that then what is their
other option?
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: I will refer that to Aladean.
JOANN SPORLEDER: What is their next option if they do not want to undo what they
have done?
ALADEAN DEROSE: An injunction can be requested prohibiting them from
continuing to have the Doric style capitals.
JOANN SPORLEDER: It was my impression that any total disagreement with the
decisions of the commission could be taken to the Common Council.
ALADEAN DEROSE: They have the right'of appeal first and assuming that they
appeal within a certain period of time then the Common Council will review your
decision.
4. 2005-0825; 517 Carroll (revocation hearing)
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: (See staff report, notice of possible revocation of C of
A, copy of 1 st page of September 19, 2005 monthly minutes, and black/white pictures of
owner's house attached to HPC meeting binder). Catherine also passed around colored
photos of the owner's house for commission members to look at for better detail.
(Homeowner, Kent Anderson, was present).
KENT ANDERSON: I have no recollection of saying anything about the wood siding
underneath the aluminum siding. The only thing I said was that the aluminum siding has
been damaged and I wanted to replace it. You kept asking me about the wood siding
underneath and I said I have no idea. I have no better idea than you would have. I would
not have tom off the other siding if you wouldn't have agreed to let me cover it.
LYNN PATRICK: I am looking at the statement in the September 19th meeting minutes
that you made when we spoke of this.
KENT ANDERSON: I read that also and if that was a direct quote from me I do not
remember making that statement about what was underneath the aluminum siding. I had
no way of knowing any more than you did.
LYNN PATRICK: I remember you saying it as well as having it in the minutes.
KENT ANDERSON: That the wood siding was bad underneath?
LYNN PATRICK: That it was rotten underneath and that is the exact wording I recall.
We then came out and looked at it and found that not to be the case. In fact, if you follow
the recommendation and do a nice paint job it will be a real enhancement of that
structure.
14
