i <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: July 6, 2007 <br />Application Number: 2007-0705 <br />Property Location: 1512 E. Wayne Street <br />Property Owner: Sally Bostick <br />Landmark or District Designation: E. Wayne Street <br />Rating: Contributing <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT: This Renaissance Revival was built in <br />1926. The first owner was Guy De Rhodes of DeRhodes-Yerrick Motor Company, a dealership for <br />Dodge Brothers located at 222 N. Lafayette. Mr. De Rhodes used it as a rental property in the 1930s until <br />its sale to Donald Adair in 1940. It has had about a dozen owner -occupants since 1940 and is currently <br />owned by Sally Bostick, <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: The owner wishes to erect a wood lattice fence along the east side of her house. <br />It will be accessed at the rear of the house by a gate. Another fence will be erected on the west side between <br />the house and garage. It will also have a gate. <br />STANDARDS FOR EAST WAYNE STREET: B. Building site, Landscaping and accessories. Required: <br />Major landscaping items, fencing, walkways, private yard lights, signs (house numbers) and benches which <br />reflect the property's history and development shall be retained. Dominant land contours shall be retained. <br />Structures such as gazebos, patio decks, fixed barbecue pits, swimming pools, tennis courts, greenhouses, new <br />walls, fountains, fixed garden furniture, trellises and other similar structures shall be compatible to the historic <br />character of the site and neighborhood and inconspicuous when viewed from the public walkway. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval. The fence will be low, obscured from view from <br />the street by shrubbery and trees. The style of the fence is sympathetic to the architecture of the house <br />
