Jerry: You leave this thing.open and you these corners open for leaks.
Rom: That's my concern, because the vinyl protects it, for, for good. That does expose
it, but by caulking -there are preventative measures I can take if this is what will get us
going on this.
Tim: Can you specify the caulk, now.
Rom: Specify?!
Tim: Silicon or latex? If it's latex, it doesn't really bond that well ... to wood.
Rom: Silicon.
Tim: Right, and you are willing to use silicon caulk?
Rom: It would have to be a100% silicon caulk.
A discussion of the virtues of various silicon caulks ensued between Rom, Jerry and Tim.
Rom: If I am going to leave the corners with the natural wood I am going to paint them
green just to, I think it would look far better, because like we had talked, I believe it was
you (Lynn) that made the comment about what we could do to accent the corners rather
than them being white. And I think that it would look fantastic if it was green along with
the soffit and fascia and the window trim. I think that would look very nice.
Todd: Just like the house across the street.
Rom: Yeah, basically, basically.
Todd: No, exactly like the house across the street, white and green trim.
Tim: I think it was the northeast corner of the house or the northeast side, when they did
the initial installation of the vinyl siding it went just about all the way to the ground. And
I know that we discussed that just a little bit and I think that the remedy for that was that
you were trying to conceal whatever asphalt shingle was present on the house in that area
and bring your vinyl all the way down to the ground. Has it been determined, once the
asphalt shingle is removed, if you wouldn't need to go down as far?
Rom: Here's what my plan for that was. We were going cut six inches up and take a 1"x
6"treated piece of lumber and wrap it in aluminum. Okay? And basically it would look
like a frieze board around, then you would have your frieze board look and then you
would see your block underneath. Okay? And being that it is treated and wrapped in
aluminum and then we'd J trim to the top of that, I think that that would look very nice.
k,
