Wayne Street <br />Rating: <br />Contributing <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT: This Renaissance Revival was built in <br />1926. The first owner was Guy De Rhodes of DeRhodes- Yerrick Motor Company, a dealership for <br />Dodge Brothers located at 222 N. Lafayette. Mr. De Rhodes used it as a rental property in the 1930s until <br />its sale to Donald Adair in 1940. It has had about a dozen owner - occupants since 1940 and is currently <br />owned by Sally Bostick, <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: The owner wishes to erect a wood lattice fence along the east side of her <br />house. It will be accessed at the rear of the house by a gate. Another fence will be erected on the west <br />side between the house and garage. It will also have a gate. <br />STANDARDS FOR EAST WAYNE STREET: B. Building site, Landscaping and accessories: <br />Required: Major landscaping items, fencing, walkways, private yard lights, signs (house numbers) and <br />benches which reflect the property's history and development shall be retained. Dominant land contours <br />shall be retained. Structures such as gazebos, patio decks, fixed barbecue pits, swimming pools, tennis <br />courts, greenhouses, new walls, fountains, fixed garden furniture, trellises and other similar structures <br />shall be compatible to the historic character of the site and neighborhood and inconspicuous when viewed <br />from the public walkway. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval. The fence will be low, obscured from view from <br />the street by shrubbery and trees.
