The drawings include three sets:
- Existing windows,
- Existing location with Jeld Wen windows,
- Existing location with existing windows and (new) storm windows.
I may note that, according to my historical record of 710 Park Avenue, the house had never storm
windows; the installation of storm windows would considerably alter the appearance of the house;
and, as the drawings show, their installation would be technically problematic.
The cost estimates show that the restoration of windows and installation of storm windows would
be more expensive than the replacement with high quality Jeld Wen windows which do not
change the appearance of the house:
Cost estimate for restoring a window of 39 3/4" X 88 1/8":
- Combo storm windows: full screen,
removable glass inserts, delivery, installation: $400.00 (based on quote from Iowa
company and R. Guntle's estimate)
- Reparation and installation of (existing) window $350.00 (based on S. Sakimoto's costs,
applied to bigger size of window)
Total $750.00
Cost estimate for replacing a window of 37" X 86":
- Single unit replacement window
- Installation
Total
$575.00 (see quote of Home Depot)
$125.00
$700.00
Given this comparison between the restoration option and the replacement option, I therefore
apply for the proposed replacement option indicated in my application form.
