A Resolution of the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County, Indiana in response to the recent South Bend Park Department budget proposal that has threatened the "Potawatomi Greenhouses and the Ella -Morris and Muessel-Ellison Botanical Conservatories," their botanical examples, collections, and their benefit to the City of South Bend. Whereas the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County, Indiana convened on September 18, 2006 for its regular meeting in the 4`f' floor Council Chambers; County - City Building Now therefore, be it resolved, that the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County, Indiana as follows: Section 1. That the City of South Bend and the Department of Parks and Recreation reconsider the dismantling of the Greenhouses and the Lord and Burnham Conservatories located in Potawatomi Park; Section 2. That the City of South Bend and the Department of Parks and Recreation convene a round table of specialists in the fields of heating and horticulture to determine any reasonable and economic methods available to save these structures and their exhibits; Section 3. That the City of South Bend and the Department of Parks and Recreation organize groups of volunteers to serve in the various capacities needed to keep the Conservatories in operation and open to the public; Section 4. That the City of South Bend and the Department of Parks and Recreation explore other avenues of fund raising, and that the admission fee of the complex be evaluated; Section 5. That the City of South Bend and the Department of Parks and Recreation study the detrimental impact to tourism, market appeal, and education; Section 6.
