Hostetler, Director <br />During the 2005 fiscal year the Historic Preservation Commission successfully concluded <br />in March the process of creating the Chapin Park Local Historic District. In October, the <br />HPC with strong local support and involvement successfully designated the Barn on <br />Adams Road as a St. Joseph County Local Landmark. HPC administered four grants, <br />three for the resurvey of the City of South Bend, Resurvey for St. Joseph County and the <br />printing of the County Survey and one for the Northern Indiana Historical Society for the <br />restoration of the Navarre Cabin in Leeper Park. HPC co-sponsored 5 workshops with <br />Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana; these were practical, hands on workshops on <br />window and siding restoration and proper paint application. HPC's office space was <br />improved to allow for better public access to the reference and research materials in the <br />Commissioners' Conference Room. The Commission's Website was moved to the <br />County server and updated to provide online forms and better service to the public. The <br />HPC worked with MACOG to digitize the Inventory of Historic Sites and Structures in <br />St. Joseph County for the GIS system. In May the HPC hosted the annual Southold <br />Preservation Awards Breakfast at the Palais Royale with guest speaker, Will Tippens, <br />who spoke on Adantive Reuses of Historic Buildin2s. The 2005 awards were given to St. <br />Patrick's Roman Catholic Church for Preservation, the County Commissioners and <br />Engineering Department for the Jefferson Street Bridge for Rehabilitation and to Mr. <br />Douglas Gibson for Restoration of his home on Hudson. The event had over 125 <br />attendees including local vendors specializing in home restoration. The HPC Office also <br />added computer software programs for public use concerning historic house paint. The <br />program includes digital photographs, color copies, disc storage and use of the program <br />for a $20.00 fee. The HPC actively participated and supported in the Granger Paths <br />initiative, provided Landmark information for the Gumwood Road project in the County <br />
