Director's Report February, 2006 <br />January 30 Toured Landmarked Burke Building with Chris Dressel, Bob Yapp and <br />Wayne Doolittle. Owner SouthGateWay-Urban Enterprise Association is contemplating <br />demolition. <br />January 31 Todd Zeiger and I spoke at Kendallville at the invitation of Mayor <br />Handshoe concerning creating a Preservation Commission and local historic districts. <br />February I Todd Zeiger, Chairman of the Landmarks Committee, and I met with Jim <br />Frick of South Gateway, Marco Mariani, Chris Dressel and Pam Meyer,of Community <br />Development concerning the Burke Building. Demolition was discussed and strongly <br />discouraged. Bob Yapp is to follow up with an assessment. The skylight has been leaking <br />for two years because Mr.. Frick decided not to spend $1,200-1,4000.00 to repair it. <br />Wayne Doolittle and I met with NNN and Memorial Hospital at 5:15 <br />concerning their plans for, expansion. Memorial is planning to create a new surgical wing <br />containing 14 operating rooms extending towards Bartlett; a new power plant and delivery <br />dock area on the comer of Bartlett and Lafayette -which is not going to be visible from the <br />street/neighborhood. The parking garage on the comer of St. Joseph and Navarre is back <br />in their plans along with a new neuro -science center at the former Kagel's Flower shop <br />location. Holladay will own this building. <br />February 2 The Historic Preservation Retreat at the LaSalle Grill Board Room. <br />February 9 Julie and I met with Lou Sabo concerning the photos of the Studebaker <br />Buildings to be demolished. Wayne Doolittle suggested creating a 12-18 month calendar <br />to sell using a selection of these photographs. <br />February 10 Attended Quarterly Department Head's meeting with County <br />Commissioner Steve Ross. Some of the changes that the County Commissioner's hope to <br />make are to create Job Classification levels with Pay Scale Grades; Security will be in our <br />building, and the renovation of the old jail space in the County City Building. <br />February 13 Registered for the Career Fair at IUSB held on March 24. Julie and I met <br />with Suzanne Stannis, Shannon Hill and Todd Zeiger concerning the City and County <br />Survey. Spoke at the request of East Wayne Street Neighborhood on the COA Process. <br />Meeting was at 7:00pm at Sunnyside Presbyterian and concluded at 8:30. <br />February 16 Wayne, Julie and I toured St. Paul's Memorial Methodist Church with <br />Donna Hostetler. This is the "Studebaker Church" in the West Washington National <br />Register District. The small congregation is looking for ways to attract new membership <br />and revenues for the maintenance of this magnificent church. <br />February 24 Attended the Studebaker Demolition with Julie, Wayne, Commissioner <br />Tim Klusczinski and Lou Sabo. Attended the Leeper Bridge meeting at INDOT in <br />LaPorte. Work will begin the week of March 6 on the cofferdams. The lights will be <br />restored. <br />
