The National Council on Public History unites people, agencies, businesses, <br />institutions, and academic programs that share your commitment to broad- <br />ening the public's appreciation and understanding of the past. Benefits of <br />NCPH membership include: <br />• The Public Historian — a journal focusing on the evolution and practice of <br />public history in its diverse forms, published quarterly at the University of <br />California Press. Electronic access now available. <br />• Public History News — a quarterly newsletter for developments in the <br />field, updates on NCPH activities, and timely information on upcoming <br />conferences, fellowships, meetings, and position vacancies. <br />• NCPH Annual Conference — discounted registration for the 2007 annual <br />conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico, April 12 -15, 2007. <br />• Awards — honoring outstanding achievements in public history; for the <br />best article in The Public Historian•, historical work in public policy forma- <br />tion; and for students and new professionals. <br />Visit <www ncph.org> to learn more. <br />Call for Presentations: National Council on Public History Annual Meeting <br />April <br />Many Histor es, Publics N Many G round? <br />Santa R stands as a place celebrated for its recognition of distinctive communities rooted in <br />traditional societies and ancestral'landscapes with the intended purpose of maintaining a <br />continuity of cultures. Such commitment to continuity has often been at odds with the <br />growth and progressive nature of both Santa R and much of the continental United <br />" . <br />States where issues are framed by conflict, negotiation, and adaptation. This place is a unique <br />environment to consider the theme "Many Histories, Many Publics --- Common Ground ? °'' <br />As public historians we support the belief that there is value in the discipline of history and- <br />in the application of the discipline for a wide range of audiences.
