May 22, 2006
MR. GARY GILOT
Department of Public Works
County -City Building #1316
227 West Jefferson
South Bend, IN 46601
Dear Mr. Gilot,
During April, an underground cable project was begun by AT &T (formerly
SBC) resulting in cable being laid under the east treelawn of Sunnyside from
an existing above ground transformer box just sorth of South Street to a
newly installed transformer box in front of Lou LaPierre's home which fronts
on Sunnyside just north of East Wayne North. My home at 1303 East Wayne
South fronts on Sunnyside and my treelawn and sidewalk were torn up by
this project. I received no prior notification by AT &T, or their contractor, as
to any of the work they ultimately did, nor have they yet repaired the
damage they have done. Although I have complained to AT &T and have
received a case number, aside from some raking of the overturned dirt in my
treelawn, no resodding or concrete repair work has yet been done.
Furthermore,_ the new box installed at the LaPierre home at 228 South
gn'hyside is an eyesore and, should never have been allowed in this Historic
'District. '
In addition to my complaint to AT &T as well as this letter to you, I have also
advised Assistant City Attorney Thomas Bodnar of the situation. Please
advise whether you can take any action to correct the physical damage to
the neighborhood created by this project, or whether you can suggest
anyone else with the ability to enforce corrective action.
Thank you,
Howard Mueller
1303 East Wayne Street South
South Bend, IN 46615
574 - 234 - 2263'" ''
cc::'Mr:: and Mrs. Louis,LaP,ierre
Mr "Thommas Bodnar
Ms. Kath'erin'e Hostettler ,
Ms. Alice McClane
