HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
OF SOUTH BEND & ST. CALLED MEETING TO ORDER
MARTHA CHOITZ: Called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.
II. PUBLIC HEARING
A. CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS
1. 2005-0906; 930 Riverside Drive -motion to remove from agenda
MARTHA CHOITZ: I will make a motion that we remove this C of A from the
meeting agenda because the owners are contemplating some major changes in their
drawings.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
2. 2005-1005; Navarre Cabin Restoration in Leeper Park
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: (See staff report, pictures and work description for cabin
attached to C of A in HPC meeting binder).
MARTHA CHOITZ: Todd, you're on the committee that is overseeing this project; so
we would like to hear any comments you would like to make on this.
TODD ZEIGER: I will recuse myself from the vote since I am an the project
committee. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. This is a project
between the Northern Indiana Center for History Historical Society, the Historic
Preservation Commission, and the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana to bring a
little more historic accuracy to the Navarre cabin. There is partial funding by the Indiana
Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, and the Historical Society is
providing the match to do a variety of items that have been described.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Is it absolutely documented that this cabin was in fact built c.
1820?
TODD ZEIGER: My role in this was to take the study that was done by Vic
Leatherwood, who was hired by the Historical Society as a consultant in log cabin design
and restoration, and tum the report into specifications. All of the research was done a
year or so ago through the Historical Society's archives. So, as far as the dates are
concerned, you would need to refer to them. I am not the expert on this.
1
