STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 02/28/2005 <br />Application Number: 2005-0228 previously 2004 05012 <br />Property Location: 830 N. Michigan Street North Pumping Station <br />Property Owner: City of South Bend <br />Landmark or District Designation: <br />Rating: 0/13 <br />Local Landmark in Leeper Park Local Landmark <br />National Register District <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT <br />In the previous staff report, staff noted the importance of the views and vistas of the significant character <br />defining features in East Leeper Park, especially the views of the North Pumping Station. The Leeper Park <br />Standards state that these views and vistas shall be preserved. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: A swing arm Barrier Gate with Omega Controller and Built in <br />Detectors to be placed at the rear access door on the north fagade on the sidewalk. The exact <br />location has not been given. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff and the Commission recommended in May 2004 that the Water <br />Works Department use an access control gate with a lift arm for the north drive of the station to <br />control the traffic. This is what is now being proposed for the Commission's consideration and <br />Staff recommends Approval. Staff would recommend that any wiring, protective bollards not <br />impact the structure and exterior masonry. <br />
