January 21,1980 <br />Page 3 <br />Historic Landmarks and Standards <br />Two homes were brought forth for Historic Landmark status by <br />JMr. Oxian. The house at 68286 Miami Road was moved to be designated <br />a landmark by Mr. Oxian, seconded by Mrs. Sporleder. Also <br />16021 Cleveland Road, Mr. Oxian moved and Mr. Newburn seconded, <br />that it so be designated. Both measures carried. <br />Mr. Oxian read into the minutes a letter from the Holladay Corp <br />in regards to having the fence surrounding the Bendix Estate <br />being declared a landmark. Mr. Oxian questioned the ability of <br />the Commission to declare a fence a historic landmark.Mrs. <br />Price stated that the fence could be included in the ordinance <br />under the term ''object''. <br />Mr. Reinke questioned what portion of the fence would be <br />designated, the fence around the entire block, or just <br />surrounding the Bendix Estate. It was felt by the Commission <br />that the entire fence should be designated a landmark. <br />Legal <br />a Mrs. Price brought up three pieces of legislation that are <br />1 <br />nel. GOPS;J ' H-fT_in Indianapolis, with a direct effect on preservation. <br />Public Relations <br />No Report <br />Environmental Impact Statement <br />Mr. Wasielewski expressed concern that in light of renewed <br />activities in the East Race area, that we should review our <br />previous statement on that area. <br />Presidential <br />Staff <br />Mr. Wasielewski stated that he will be setting new committees, <br />goals, and priorities for the Commission in the next month. <br />Mr. Stamper briefly read into the record the 1979 Staff Report <br />(appendix 1). He stated that a favorable review was received on <br />the CETA position, with a 7% raise given to Janice Nosier. A <br />CETA secretary position is currently in review. <br />Mrs. Price stated the Governor's Conference on Historic <br />Preservation will be held March 5-6. Some of the members should <br />attend. Mr. Newburn moved, and seconded by Mrs. Price that <br />registration and travel (one car) for 4 members should be <br />provided. Mr. Oxian objected since funding for past conferences <br />was erratic. He felt there should be criteria and standards on <br />
