He has traveled the State restoring
cemeteries and educating people for nine years. He is respected by State Legislators and
the DNR as an expert in his field.
When a stone is moved from where it is today, and then placed where it was originally
meant to be, it is documented. First a picture is taken where the stone is now setting,
followed by a picture of where it should be. There is also documentation as to why it was
moved. In other words a case is trade in writing for the placement of the stone.
Many of the stones in this cemetery were placed in a "patio" type setting. They were just
laying face up in a comer of the yard. I believe this was done to make it easier for
mowing. A large majority of these stones were fragments.
It is Penn Township's intention to restore this cemetery to the best of our ability. It is
projected that the cemetery can be 70% restored at a cost of $30,000.00. This work
should be completed in May so that we may have a proper ceremony for Memorial Day. I
hope to work with the Historic Preservation Commission in planning this ceremony. I'm
confident that you will be impressed with the before and after pictures of this project, and
share with me in giving back the respect deserved by those who started our community.
