DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Julie's increase was approved by the County Commissioners and forwarded on to the
County Council.
The Brochure insert was delivered and the new brochure is a work in progress due on
April 25 for DHPA review.
April 13, 2005 Memorial Hospital and Neighborhoods' Meeting at NNN
Karen Ainsley, Ted Foti, Gary Gilot, Carl Littrell, Wayne Doolittle, Catherine and
William Hostetler, other Memorial Personnel
See Map. As you can see Bartlett will be closed and a spur off Main Street/US33 will be
created as the new entrance to Memorial's Campus. There will be a new traffic signal at
US33 and Memorial Drive. The traffic signal at Bartlett will be eliminated by INDOT.
Memorial doesn't like the idea -too many Doctor/Residents crossing between clinic and
hospital; neither did River Bend as it would make access to the South on US33
impossible from Bartlett. All SkyWay traffic would then funnel towards Navarre via the
old alleyway with poor visibility
Impact on Leeper Park: Massive sewer project down Lafayette Street. The entire Street
will be pulled up and a new line installed with an outlet on the River which will impact
the Park. This will be a deep excavation project in stages, with any brick harvested for
other uses. Also a new junction will be installed on Park Lane which will involve a slight
invasion of Leeper Park's sod. COA's will be required for all work. There is discussion
of putting a sidewalk on the East side of Lafayette in Leeper Park based on
Neighborhood concerns that no sidewalk exists and the one running west of Riverside
just dead ends. COA needed and Commission hearing for that one. A means to slow the
traffic coming down Riverside Drive with the use of a T- shaped configuration at the
intersection of Riverside and Lafayette was also discussed.
Streetlights in the Leeper Park Chapin Park area would resemble the ones on the
Jefferson Street Bridge.
More discussion and thought needs to be given to the relocated Bartlett Street access onto
Lafayette in relation to Lamont Terrace's access to Lafayette and the development of the
Pocket Park on the site of the demolished apartments.
April 16 NNN /Chapin Park/Pocket Park
Informal meeting for neighborhood input with landscape architects on the "pocket park"
on Lafayette. Memorial has given funding to begin the project. Designs ranged from
informal to elaborate that were compatible with the site. One person from the
neighborhood was present along with 4 neighborhood architects, Liz Maradik from
Community Development, Karen and Rebekah from NNN and me.
