(21)."
"New work may be contemporary or may suggest motifs from the historic buildings. New construction design
should be clearly differentiated from the design of the historic buildings (28).
Aluminum or vinyl siding may be used when it is the only feasible alternative. This siding should be
compatible with the original size and style and with the materials of other buildings in the district (29).
APPLICATION ITEMS:
Construct new 24' by 20' garage on property along with concrete drive that will lead to a graveled area
and the alley.
RECOMMENDATION
The proposed garage would have a hipped roof and 4/12 pitch to reflect the construction of the house. It
would be a two -stall garage, rather plain and contemporary in style, with vinyl or hardi-board siding. The
owner is in the process of choosing either two single garage doors or a double garage door of insulated
steel. The garage will also have a solid panel access door. The proposed site places the garage between
the house and the alley, and maximizes green space on either side of the house.
Staff finds that the scale of the garage is appropriate to the site and the Taylor's Field district. The garage
is contemporary in design and would be distinguishable from the historic fabric of the district.
Staff recommends approval of application 2004-1013.
