}
STAFF REPORT
CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A
CERTIFIATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
Date: October 28, 2004
Application Number: 2004-1028
Property Location: 742 Sancome
Property Owner: Kathy and John Oxian
Landmark Designation: Local Landmark/Zeitler House
Rating: S/11
This is an American Foursquare House, designed and built in 1912 by architect Jonathan Nelson.
APPLICATION ITEMS: Proposed work description concerns two Silver Maples and a Sierra Elm in the
yard. The applicant wants to cut down the Silver Maple tree in the back yard and grind out the stump and
trim off all of the dead branches that are on the Silver Maple in the side yard. They also want to cut down
the Sierra Elm tree near the fence and grind out the stump. The applicant met with Brent Thompson, City
Forester. His opinion is included along with pictures by HPC Inspector, Wayne Doolittle.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Given the context of the City Forester's letter and the nature of Silver
Maples growth/deterioration cycle, staff recommends approval for the removal of the Silver Maple and
the trimming of the other. Staff also recommends approval for the removal of the Sierra Elm along the
fence.
