South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - March 21, 1997
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. continued....
With the project cost of $100,000, the
taxes generated, without abatement,
would be approximately $28,463. With
abatement, the taxes would be
approximately $16,730. Therefore, the
cost of the abatement would be
approximately $11,733.
Mr. Groome noted that Maaco is a
national franchise incorporated into 500
centers throughout the United States and
Canada. It specializes in auto painting,
opposed to a regular body shop. The
difference between the two is the price it
would cost to get an automobile painted.
He noted that customer service and
customer appearance is very important to
Maaco. He passed out a booklet that was
published in 1994 by Maaco. It listed
information about Maaco and the
operation of their company. Mr. Groome
showed drawings of the building to the
Commission. He noted that the building
will be gray with a blue stripe on the front
and one side of the building. There will
be a monument -style sign in the front of
the building in the grass area. He noted
that there's a chain link fence on the
windows for protection purposes, which
may be taken down. Landscaping will be
done on the outside of the building. On
the inside of the building, there will be a
customer service area that will be
customer friendly.
H:\ HOME\ CPHIPPS \WPDATA \COMMSN\032197.MIN -6-
