1 1TBE
TROYER
me GROUP,
4eaders in Planning, Design and Management
Services for the Enduring Built Environment
April 29, 2004
Ms. Shana Kelso
Historic Structures Reviewer
Indiana Department of Natural Resources
Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology
Room W274, IGC South
402 West Washington Street
Indianapolis, IN 46204
RE: - Eddy, Colfax, and LaSalle Intersection Improvements
Des Numbers: 0400084 & 0400086
Dear Ms. Kelso:
03117.01
In response to your letter dated March 8, 2004, a copy of which is attached for your reference, we
are providing the answers to your four questions. Please keep in mind that at this point we have
only finished the first submittal in the MOT design process and significant changes could be
made to these plans in future submissions.
1. Attached to this letter are 11"x17" plan and profile sheets showing the existing and
proposed location of the curb and sidewalks. Also, please refer to the digital pictures,
provided in our March 12'' early coordination packet, for further detail of the existing
location of curb and sidewalks.
2. We will not be adding decorative features to any of the sidewalks. All of the sidewalks
will be replaced with plain concrete to match the existing material.
3. Seven small trees along the front of the South Bend Clinic located within the existing
property lines will be removed due to the proposed construction. The replanting of these
trees will be the decision of the property owner and will be negotiated during the R/W
phase of the project. The three small trees located within the public R/W on the south
side of LaSalle Street (west of Eddy Street) will not be replanted. Sodding will be applied
wherever the existing grass is disturbed. We intend to limit disturbance to existing trees
to a minimum. See the attached highlighted plans for tentative tree removal locations.
4. At this stage in the project we do not foresee the removal of 1028 East Colfax or any
other buildings within the East Washington Historic District. We have narrowed the
proposed travel lanes to avoid relocations. Please refer to the attached plans for existing
and proposed R/W locations.
By copy of this letter, we are requesting the consulting parties also comment on this additional
information.
550 Union Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544
TEL (574) 259-9976 FAX (574) 259-9982
www.troyergroup.com
torecycled paper
