Fence styles and house architectural styles developed together, each <br />new housing style driving the creation of matching new fence types; for most <br />homes, there is an appropriate fence style to match. The first houses at <br />Plimoth and Jamestown had rough-hewn pales around their gardens. Later, as <br />houses became more sophisticated, so did fences; Federal and Georgian styles <br />produced a wide variety of wooden picket and board -style fences that were <br />appropriate to these houses. Later still, the Victorians created even more <br />elaborate wooden styles, as well as intricate cast- and wrought -iron fences, <br />which became common during the early I800s. <br />If a search through the standard options doesnt produce a suitable <br />choice for your house, whatever its style, consider a custom fence. Copy a <br />portion of railing or baluster from your home or one in the neighborhood <br />and have a local carpenter make up the sections for you.
