DESIGN XII.—A Square SuburbaiL Cottage. <br />TIIIs is only an attempt to give a tolerable exterior to a <br />species of cottage of very moderate size, common in the <br />suburbs of all our villages. <br />DESIGNS FOR COTTAGES. 123 <br />The roof projects eighteen inches, upon rafter brackets of <br />the plainest description, being only common joists or the small <br />timbers of the roof. <br />An open porch of trellis -work for vines assists in giving an <br />air of some taste to the exterior of this cottage. <br />ACCOMMODATION. In a cottage of this kind not an inch <br />should be lost, and, therefore, a form nearly square has been <br />adopted. <br />[ Fig. 52.
