C. Public Library Historic Data Preservation: November 22, 9:00-12:00
KAREN HAMMOND-NASH: Reported on the information made available by the St. Joseph
County Public Library at their November 6 reception, which she attended. This reception was
held to show off the library's new duplication and computer imaging equipment. The reception
was aimed primarily and principally at HPC members. Karen said that it was clear to her that the
concerns of the HPC members were not understood by the library director. Most of what was
being shown at the reception was intended to show how absolutely wonderful digital duplication
can be. We already know that and agree.
However, Virginia O'Hair, as well as other commission members, has been greatly
concerned about the plan to move the paper documents out of the History and Genealogy Room
where they are presently located, and to make publicly available only the computer generated
duplicates.
There will be a seminar demonstrating how the digital duplication is to be done, to be
held at the mail library on November 22nd. Commission members were advised to attend.

D.
