JOHN OXIAN: I think it that if they plan to install a new awning, then the new awning should
be an exact replicate of the old awning that is already there now. Can the shape of the awning be
exactly replicated?

JIM COPPENS: According to what they are telling us, yes it can.

Commission members then proceeded to talk about the sign for the firehouse theater.

JIM COPPENS: We did get our logo redesigned a couple of years ago. This is what the new
logo looks like, (refer to sign design, S2, attached to C of A). What we would like to do is
replace the old sign that is there now with a sign that has our new logo on it.

MARTHA CHOITZ: I did have a sign man from one of the electrical companies come out
during this same time. He drew up a plan and he told me where the sign should be located. The
location he told me is not the same location as what you have marked on your map.

JOHN OXIAN: I would also like to recommend that you don't use sodium vapor lights to light
up your building. The National Register is totally against using any type of sodium vapor lights
on houses or buildings of any type. You should recommend using either a metal halogen light or
something closer to an incandescent light. If you use a sodium vapor light you will have a
yellowish glare on your building, which you don't want to have.

MARTHA CHOITZ: The lights will be on the ground then facing upwards towards the building,
correct?

JIM COPPENS: Yes, that is correct.

MARY JANE CHASE: I will make a motion on 2003-1031, the firehouse theater, that the
replacement of the awning and the lighting be referred to the Standards and Maintenance
Committee.

VIRGIl UA O'HAIR: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.

MARY JANE CHASE: Amends her earlier motion to give the firehouse theater a three-month
extension.

5. 2003-1101; Leeper Park Island Tree Trimming, and commencement of
dredging and seawall restoration.
KAREN HAMMOND-NASH: No drawings or specifications have been submitted. It is simply
a request from the city forester to have permission to limb up all of the trees on Leeper Park
Island to a height of approximately five feet above the ground in order to provide clearance for
equipment and for the commencement of dredging and seawall restoration on Leeper Park
Island.

CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Noted that no one was present from the City Park Department or
the city of South Bend representing this project.
IN
