1 ROBERT FARKAS: I will summarize what we went through at the advisory committee
2 meeting. I have with me tonight, Mr. Patrick Werntz, from Werntz Supply Company here in
3 South Bend, a local supplier for Traco windows, which we recommended at the last commission
4 meeting.
5 I have brought the shop drawings with me tonight that were a result of the committee
6 meeting that was held on site at Jefferson School. We have made the necessary changes to the
7 design sketches so that we will be able to replicate the exact details of the existing windows. We
8 also discussed at the committee meeting how this would be more possible with the aluminum
9 units than it would be with the aluminum clad wood units.
10 I think the last point that was made, was how we were going to stick the screen into the
11 frame. Do you recall that statement, Virginia?
12
13 VIRGINIA O'HAIR: Yes, I remember that.
14
15 ROBERT FARKAS: Our supplier has modified the detail so that the screen fits and we achieve
16 an exact duplication of the jam detail. To illustrate this, we refer to our drawings. (See copies of
17 attached shop drawings.)
18
19 ROBERT FARKAS: These shop drawing show that exact duplication, existing conditions and
20 then brand spanking new. The daylight opening is affected by less than the two percent that we
21 had asked for in our job specification. So, we feel that we have met all of our requirements.
22 From our committee meeting, I promised that we would submit to you three full sets of actual
23 shop drawings for the windows. These shop drawings are dimensionally correct and are
24 basically the assembly instructions for the windows.
25 I invite you to review these drawings and understand that they are quantified dimension.
26 Everything is per the last committee meeting that we had. We can also replicate the details on
27 the building, with the exception of the material.
28
29 KAREN HAMMOND-NASH: We note that you are including the dogs at the bottom of the. .
30 sashes, which is very nice.
31
32 JOHN OXIAN: The windows that we discussed at one time were going to be clad; was this
33 going to be aluminum clad or vinyl clad?
34
35 ROBERT FARKAS: Aluminum clad.
36
37 JOHN OXIAN: What is the guarantee on these windows regarding paint and whatever else need
38 be as compared to the aluminum clad windows?
39
40 - PAT WERNTZ: Either way it is a ten-year warranty to the owner.
41
42 JOHN OXIAN: This includes painting and everything?
43
44 PAT WERNTZ: The paint finish that is used on the Traco window is called a duranar paint
45 finish. It is a ceramic silicon enamel finish, which is baked on at five hundred degrees. The salt,
46 spray, chalk, and sun exposure test, gives thirty years before there is any degeneration to the
47 finish of this material. This is standard with extruded aluminum windows from several
48 manufacturers today. It is, however, very uncommon with aluminum clad wood windows. An
5
