June 4, 2403
Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County
125 S. Lafayette Blvd.
South Bend, IN
46601
Application for Certificate of Appropriateness
For 509 Edgewater Drive
To Whom It May Concern: - -- - --
I am applying for a certificate of appropriateness to perform the following
improvements to my home.
Drivewav: The existing driveway is broken up and has a depression in the
middle, which collects large amounts of water. I am proposing to remove the existing
driveway from the sidewalk back to approximately 5' in front of the two garages. I will
replace the driveway with fiberglass reinforced concrete (4000psi), which will also be
reinforced with wire mesh. The footprint of the new drive way will increase in width,
leaving 2'-0" next to 509 Edgewater and 517 Edgewater.
Landscaping: The current landscaping consists of a flowerbox constructed of
landscape timbers. My plan is to remove the landscape timbers and topsoil to leave a 2"
slope away from the house. I would then follow the enclosed landscaping plan for
replanting. The quantities of plants will be reduced, but the types of plants will remain
the same, with the exception of the Canadian hemlock, which would be replaced with
Lilac's. The Hicks Yew's will be dwarfs only.
Patio: The current yard plan consists of spotty grass due to large shaded areas in
the back yard. My plan is to remove the topsoil and grass in an area approximately 16%
0" x 16'-0" and install Paverlock `Oxford Tumbled' paving brick. The footprint would
be according to the enclosed plan.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (574) 532-
2929. Thank you.
Sincefilm
le
