DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED WORK
Matthew J. & Katharine S. Barrett
425 W. North Shore Dr.
South Bend, IN 46617
4 -3 -03
We would like to improve and expand the existing basketball court that sits in the rear of
the east side of our property. The current court, which includes two hoops, sits on a 20 feet by
40 feet concrete slab. We would like to expand the court to approximately 52 feet (a regulation
basketball court is 50 feet wide) by 40 feet (a mulberry tree stands approximately 45 feet south of
the northern edge of the existing slab; we will stay at least five feet away from the tree). If at all
possible, we plan to keep the existing concrete slab and add: (1) approximately 6 feet to both the
east and west sides and (2) approximately 20 feet to the south side (because of an existing crack,
we may have to remove the entire slab and start over). We will either relocate or completely
remove the section of chain link fence on the south side of the court. We plan to remove the two
existing hoops (currently on the east and west sides of the court) and install a new fiberglass
backboard (on the north side of the expanded court). To keep basketballs from entering the alley,
we would like to install two poles inside the existing fence on the north side of the new court that
would support temporary netting (similar to what hangs behind the goal posts in football stadiums
to prevent kicks from entering the stands).
