GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: No, on the ceiling area here instead. Realistically the
best solution is to have the soffit ventilation incorporated with a pop hat or a refinished
ventilation sytem. Although in this particular house there is no feasible way for you to
get adequate soffit ventilation in the house. If you look to the next page the outline is the
roofs edge and the x line is the houses so it shows you the size of the soffits. This area
here is the front porch, this is the front of the house.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Which soffits are wider these or these?
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: These soffits here are wider. These two soffits here have
real metal and have no aspect to them.
For the record could you say which one; otherwise our transcriptionist would be mad.
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: The eaves soffit.
KAREN HAMMON NASH: The second story eaves soffit.
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: Yes, the second story eaves soffit. The second page is a
little thing I put together that shows you the air -flow ventilation. It is an oversew of the
sides of the house. The solid lines are the roof's edge and the dotted lines are the edge of
the house.
JOANN SPORLEDER: In a case like this, with all of these additional things, it doesn't
do any good then to put a continuous one.
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: No, actually via Michiana Insulation, John Gruger, who
is our employed contractor, it defeats our purpose to put the ridge vent along with the
cable vent. The ridge vent is designed to have soffit vents parallel to it at a lower area. If
you incorporate the two you defeat the purpose of either or.
MARTHA CHOITZ: So, these triangular things here are the soffits?
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: On the drawing the triangle areas represents the soffit
ventilation.
MARTHA CHOITZ: Now how do you get to the attic space when you are finished?
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: There will be an access in the closet on the second floor.
MARTHA CHOITZ: A pop-up
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: Yes, a pop-up place.
MARTHA CHOITZ: So the attic is just an attic.
Vy
