13
Request for Certificate of Appropriateness
South Bend Historic Preservation Commission
1012 Riverside Drive
We would like to request a Certificate of Appropriateness for the following
improvements to our home at 1012 Riverside Drive:
A. We wish to construct an approximately 8 foot long, 72 -inch high privacy
fence between our garage and the neighbor's garage. The fence will be made
of wood and stained white. It will be constructed by Schuell Fence using their
Villager 11 style. Given its location, the fence will not be visible from the
street. We plan to place it so it will not get in the way of the neighbors'
ability to get in and out of their cares. In addition, the gate will open inwards
onto our property. The finished side of the fence will face outwards. The
fence will provide additional security needed because there are a couple of
easily accessible basement windows just inside its intended location. The
white stain will match the white trim of the house.
B. We would also like to construct a set of brick steps connecting the upper back
terrace, which is accessible through the kitchen, to the lower back terrace,
currently only accessible by going around the front of the house and down the
front steps, or through the basement. We intend to construct these steps using
street pavers similar to those used for the terraces. These steps will not be
visible from the front of the house. In fact, they will not be visible from any
location except from the back of our own property.
Submitted by Mike Keen and Gabrielle Robinson (owners)
1012 Riverside Drive, South Bend
233-4257
