Lafayette South Bend IN 46601 Phone; 219-235-9798 Fax: 219.235-9578 Email: histodc@michiana.org DO NOT FORGET YOUR COA Please remember that if you own a property with in a Local Historic Dis- trict or a Local Land- mark, work which af- fects the exterior of your property (Le., main buildings, outbuildings, grounds, landscaping) requires a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the Historic Preser- vation Commission be- fore any work can com- mence. Routine periodic work such as re -roofing with similar materials and removal of dead trees may be approved by the Commissions' Staff with- out delay. Painting of previously painted sur- faces does not require a COA. Less routine or more ex- tensive projects such as window replacement or construction of a room addition require review by the Historic Preserva- tion Commission in a Public Hearing and may entail a delay of 10 to 45 days depending on when the application is received by the HPC Of- fice. Call 235-9798 if you have questions re- garding whether your proposed project re- quires a COA and how to have it reviewed. Footnote to all owners, the application fee for a COA is $5.00 for all staff reviewed applications and $10.00 for Commis- sion reviewed applica- tions.
