Thus, the construction and materials will be in keeping with pre- existing fences in the neighborhood,
and with the spirit and character of architecture present on E. Wayne St. We have consulted your
publication "The City of South Bend's East Wayne Street Local Historic District" in designing the
fence.
Photograph of similar style picket fence with
French gothic board tops. Spacing of boards
will be 3" to give a 50% open fence.
Importantly, this fence will not restrict access to sidewalks, or public thoroughfares along E. Wayne
or Esther streets. The fence will enclose our backyard and the side yard along Esther St. The fence
will be set back 2' from the sidewalk along Esther (see enclosed diagram of property: variance from
City for setback has been applied for). This enclosed area will be used as a play area for our children,
and we will plant a flower garden. A small bed of annuals will be planted outside of the fence along
Esther.
Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanking you
for your time and consideration, I remain,
Sincerely yours,
4 l
Edward H. Hinchcliffe, P1.....
Assistant Professor
Department of Biological Sciences
And the Walther Cancer Research Institute
University of Notre Dame
