demise the family sold the shop building to John Freidline. He briefly rented the building
to the Gillis Company, a silver storing materials company. The structure appears to have
been vacant for the better part of the last ten years. In March of 2000 Mr. Freidline
transferred title of the building to the Land Trust, of which he is chairman.
RECOMMENDATION
The Preservation Guidelines for Local Landmarks follow the Rehabilitation Model.
Standards `B".
The applicant is South Bend Code Enforcement. They are requesting
demolition of this structure as a public health hazard. The Commission just recently
hired its own inspector and as such the staff recommends tabling of this application to
allow our new inspector to review the property and put together a report, which would
include repair and demolition, estimates. The staff is requesting these estimates in order
to have a comparison with those given by Code Enforcement at their last meeting. The
inspector involved gave the following figures: $24,600.00 + for repairs and $3,300.00 for
demolition.
2
