Brief discussion followed. The Commission studied a site plan provided by the contractor,
showing scale and location on the site of house, drive, and proposed garage. In response to
concern expressed, Kirk Philippsen said that only scrub, and no major trees would be
removed, and the new garage would be at least six feet from the large back yard tree.

GERALD UJDAK said that he had personally inspected the old garage earlier that day, and
found it riddled with termite damage, such that not only did demolition appear necessary, but
also, treatment of the site by an exterminator, lest termites migrate to the house and or the
neighbors houses.

JOHN OXIAN expressed concern that the proposed new siding was a different dimension
from that on the existing garage, or the house.

KIRK PHILLIPSEN said that the church committee had matched proposed garage siding to
the blue color of the house siding, rather than matching the width or dimensions of the house
siding.

MARTHA CHOITZ said that vinyl siding — which is what they are asking to use - takes paint
very well. If they match the dimension, then they can paint to match the color blue.

RICHARD MORRISON moved for approval of the application to demolish the existing
garage, and replace it with a 24' by 30' garage, with the stipulations that (1) no major trees be
cut or injured, (2) the siding on the new garage match the width and dimensions of the house
siding, and (3) that the present garage service door be reused on the new garage.

GERALD WEINER seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously.

CATHERINE HOSTETLER RETURNED THE CHAIR TO JOHN OXIAN.

B. PROPOSED LOCAL LANDMARKS, SECOND READING

1. 1313 LISTON

At the request of the Director, oral reading of the history and recommendation were waived,
all parties having already received them.

The Chair recommended approval of Landmark Status for this property.

-- RHONDA SAUNDERS said that the owner had called the Commission Offices and had
asked her several questions, but had not given an indication of her feelings regarding
landmark status. She had been notified of this meeting, but was not present.

JOHN OXIAN said that he had also spoken to the owner.

MARTHA CHOIITZ moved that 1313 Liston be forwarded to the City Council as a proposed
local landmark.

GERRY WEINER seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously.
