No. 9882100, Project No. 196 -0239 -OED; Angela Blvd. bridge rehabilitation
Dear Ms. Orickc
Thank you for providing me with the information packet regarding the proposed bridge
rehabilitation in South Bend. I appreciate your consideration in involving our organization
in the review of this project. This appears to be a good project, but I have some concerns
about the bridge's final appearance. In particular, the replacement of the sidewalks, railings,
and spandrel walls. The bridge is decorative, and I feel that it should be restored to its
historic appearance. As long as the bridge retains its historic integrity I find no historic
properties to be affected.
It is important for you to know that my concern in the project areas is only with the built -
environment, and does not include possible archaeological sites. For archaeological records
for the sites, I suggest you contact the state historic preservation office. Also, the South
Bend Historic Preservation Commission has designated the bridge a local landmark, so all
changes to the bridge must be approved by that agency. If you have any questions regarding
my findings or if changes are made to the current project, please let me know.
Sincerely,
*Zeiger
Director, Nort fern Regional Office
cc: John Carr, DI-TA
Rhonda Saunders, South Bend historic Preservation Commission
Mary Renshaw, St. Joseph Co.
