HISTORIC <br />STRUCTURES <br />113 W. NORTH SHORE DRIVE <br />This house was the first to be built in this district. It <br />was constructed in 1888, in the Carpenter style, as a <br />wedding present from Samuel Leeper to his son, <br />Samuel Jr. Mr. Leeper Sr., was a prominent land <br />owner and pioneer of South Bend, his son was the <br />owner of a brick yard that supplied bricks for various <br />structures at Notre Dame as well as for the fast paved <br />roads in South Bend. <br />209 W. NORTH SHORE DRIVE <br />Joseph & F1ore— Neff built this Dutch Colonial <br />s t in 1905. Mr. Neff helped nrQanize several dif- <br />nt trust companies in Northern Indiana, among <br />were the American Trust Company, The Home <br />Improvement Company and the Twin City Realty <br />Company. The Neff s resided here until 1912 when <br />the property was sold to Arthur Russell, owner and <br />operator of a chain of funeral homes in South Bend. <br />DISTRICT MAP <br />i2r NORTH SHORE DRIVE <br />is 0 <br />This Mission Revival style house was built in 19� <br />by Henry and Clara Hoover. Mr. Hoover was a <br />whole sale lumberman. The couple lived in the house <br />until their deaths, at which time it was inherited by <br />their son, Henry Jr. Mr. Hoover Jr., continued to re- <br />side in the family home until 1995. <br />Z <br />Q ., <br />U <br />2 <br />229 W. NORTH SHORE DRIVE <br />W e les A. Dolph constructed this Tudor Revival <br />house in 1910. Mr. Dolph dealt in household <br />goods and stoves as well as real estate and develop- <br />ment. He later became Vice President of the Mer- <br />chant's National Bank, later renamed the National <br />Bank and Trust. <br />�(n _ <br />305 W. NORTH SHORE DRIVE <br />Harvey Elwood Dalton bought this property in 1919 <br />for $5,000.00 and built a Colonial Revival style <br />house on the site three years later. Mr. Dalton began <br />his career in Detroit, Michigan, with the Interna- <br />tional Harvester and later as a statistician for Packard <br />Motor Company. In 1912 he joined the Studebaker <br />Corporation in South Bend, Indiana, as an account- <br />ant. He was eventually promoted to comptroller in <br />1928 and retired in the 1940s. <br />325 W. NORTH SHORE DRIVE <br />This is one of the few known Sears & Robuck cata- <br />log houses in South Bend, Indiana. It is called th <br />"Magnolia" and was built by Max Stryker in 192 <br />In the mid- 1920's Mr. Stryker and his cousin, Ha <br />Shroff, organized the Federated Teacher's Service <br />Corporation which published music and operated a <br />service organization for music teachers. Mr. Stryker <br />resided in this house until his death in 1951. <br />
