STAFF REPORT
CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
Application Number: 2000-0810
Property Location: 112 S. Lafayette
Property Owner: St. Joseph County
Landmark or District Designation: LL
Rating: 0/13
RECOMMENDATION
The Preservation Guidelines for Local Landmarks follow the Rehabilitation Model.
Group B Standards
The applicant is requesting to install "monumental" lighting on the roof of the
existing 1855 Courthouse, four (4) #95V-10005 fixtures, 30 in. high and 1000 watts. The
fixture color is DNA Natural Aluminum to match the adjacent stainless -steal roof.
The staff finds that the proposed lights detract and disrupt the visible unity or
overall appearance of the courthouse. They are too large causing them to be extremely
visible from ever fagade of the building except the rear. The staff would prefer that the
structure not be lit then to leave these garish lights in place, thus, staff recommends
denial of the application.
