RECOMMENDATION
The N. St. Joseph Local Historic District Guidelines follow the rehabilitation model.
The applicant is proposing seven different projects for their property at 610 N. St. Joseph.
They are as follows: 1) construct an 8'x12' wooden storage shed, painted to match house,
in the southwest corner of the property. 2) Continue an existing hedgerow across front of
side yard curving to meet the walkway that runs along side the house using
approximately 18 to 20 shrubs. 3) Install a cedar arbor over side yard walk where
hedgerow will abut. 4) Erect an 8'x12' cedar deck with basic square side rail. 5) Plant 2
Weigelia Shrubs and 1 Butterfly Bush in front of new deck which will cause the removal
of one superfluous square of sidewalk cement. 6) Remove two dying evergreen bushes,
one in front of porch and one along the side and replace with Rhododendrons. 7) Plant a
dogwood tree in rear side yard to buffer impact of new storage shed.
The staff finds all of the above noted projects to be a sensitive way for the owners to get
better use out of their yard and to protect their children with out adversely affecting the
property or neighborhood. The staff recommends approval of the application as
submitted.
