RECOMMENDATION
The owner is proposing to remove the existing architrave, frieze, cornice trim pieces from
above the front entry door, extend a flat roof approximately 30" beyond the face of the
existing house and support it with two 10" round wood colonial columns and then
reconstruct the architectural trim pieces to match the original. The applicant is also
requesting to remove the existing black plastic, louvered shutters from the front fagade
and replace them with new wood, louvered shutters, stained black. Thirdly, the applicant
is proposing to demolish the existing front concrete and brick stoop and reconstruct a new
stoop that will be approximately 4' x 8', with one 12" step.
The proposed entry would look identical to the existing entry, with the only difference
being that the details would protrude 30" from the wall of the house and the columns are
rounded instead of fluted. The staff recommends approval of the portico with the
alteration that the columns be fluted to match the existing faux columns.
The new stoop will be made of concrete, brick and stone and will compliment the new
portico with out adding or removing any significant architectural detail. The staff feels
that the proposed stoop and new shutters will add greatly to the buildings overall
appearance with out violating the guidelines, and thus recommends approval.
