The AGA Realty Company immediately began plans for a complete interior renovation to
bring the building up to modern standards. As the renovations got under way plans to
add a two to three story annex to the north fagade began to surface. In 1973 AGA Realty
Company and the First Bank & Trust sold the building to the Economic Development
Company, who completed the remodeling in 1975. The building continued to change
ownership through out the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s until it was sold in 1995 to the current
owners John and Donna Freidline.
PROPOSED CHANGE(S)
2000-0208-2
The applicant is proposing to install storefront awnings above each of the entrances to the
office located at the corner of North Main Street and Washington Avenue.
2000-0208-3
The applicant is proposing to install a 6" air vent with turbine fan through north facade
wall.
REFERENCE TO GOVERNING STANDARDS:
Restoration: Rehabilitation: X
The Preservation Guidelines for Local Landmarks:
b) ... The Guidelines for Local Landmarks follow the Rehabilitation Model ...
Group B Standards
C. Renovations and Additions
Additions to landmarks should be added in a manner that does not disrupt the visible
unity or overall appearance of the site.
RECOMMENDATION
2000-0208-2
The applicant is proposing to install two convex "waterfall" designed awnings over the
entrances of the office located at the corner of N. Main Street and Washington Avenue.
The front edge of the awnings will project four feet over the sidewalk. The Main Street
fagade will bee 13' 6" wide while the Washington Avenue awning will be 15' 6" wide.
The frames will be made of 1" aluminum with the rafters and braces evenly spaced apart.
The canopy fabric will be manufactured out of a Sunbrella fabric, which is a woven
acrylic material that resists mildew and is opaque. Polystyrene "eggcrate" panels will be
installed along the bottom of the awnings, which will sit approximately 8'6" above the
sidewalk. The awnings will be dark burgundy with white graphics on the front of the
awning that spell out "Flint Personnel Services".
19
