STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Application Number: 1999-1029-2 <br />Property Location: 552 River Avenue <br />Property Owner: Gregory & Lisa Cronkright <br />Landmark or District Designation: LHD-EP <br />Rating: C/10 Key Number: 18-3039-1527 <br />Survey Number: 141-597-56784 <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT <br />This house was built in 1922 by Clarence E. Folger, the president and manager of the <br />Folger Barlick Company, which a wholesale and retail window shade and awning store. <br />Clarence and his wife, Edith, resided here until 1926 when they sold the house to Mary Misher, <br />a stenographer at Studebaker Brothers. She only resided here for two years, selling the house <br />in 1928 to John Newman, a switchman. Mr. Newman lived in this house until his death in <br />1954, his wife, Mary, continued to reside here until 1969. The house remained vacant for a few <br />years until it was sold to Leon and Lahna Richardson in 1977. Mr. Richardson sold the <br />property two years later to Kenneth Deboer who sold it to the current owners, Greg and Lisa <br />Cronkright in 1998. <br />
