Dist. <br />Rating: C-10 Key Number: <br />Survey Number: 141-597-46360 <br />Statement of Significance & Historic Context <br />Andrew and Lottie Jorgensen purchased the land at 609 North St. Joseph Street from <br />Joseph and Vernon G. Hastings. The Jorgensen's built and occupied the house. Andrew was <br />a bricklayer. He died in 1934, leaving his wife to live in the home until her death in 1939. <br />Upon her death the home was sold in a sheriffs sale that same year. H.O.L.C. <br />purchased the house at some point then sold it to Central Life Insurance Company in 1950. <br />Two years later it was then sold to Charles and Mary Slocum. Mary was the daughter of the <br />Jorgenson. They first took residence in this house as of 1941. Although the date of their <br />departure from this residence is unknown, it was past 1960. <br />In 1970 the owner is listed as Mary Bolinger Bunyan, wife of Clair Edward Bunyan <br />who is the owner of the Leesburg Lumber Company. Mrs. Bunyan owned the home until just <br />prior to her death in 1987. She sold it to Carl Culp who owned the house through 1997 <br />when he sold it to Memorial Health Systems. <br />The house was moved across the street in 1998 to the present street address of 612 <br />North St. Joseph Street. The house is now under the ownership of the Near Northwest <br />Neighborhood, Inc. <br />Page: 1 <br />
