It <br />remained vacant until 1931 when the house was sold to James B. and Pearl B. Hughes. Mr. <br />Hughes was originally from England, he migrated to the United States in 1921 to become the <br />chief body engineer for Studebaker. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes owned the house until 1941 when <br />they sold it to Ralph and Helen Van Horne. Mr. Van Horne was the president of Van Horne & <br />Company, Inc., a jewelry company located at 114 W. Washington. He resided here until 1972 <br />when he sold the house to Jane and Leonard Fleck, an assistant professor at Indiana University <br />South Bend. They resided here until 1987 when they sold the house to the current owner, John <br />Axelberg. <br />
