The total amount which we
project will be available for 1999 (South Bend's entitlement plus unspent funds reprogrammed from
previous years),. assuming the entitlement stays the same as 1998, will only be $4,715,400.
The Department of Community & Economic Development staff have recommended to the Mayor and the
South Bend Common Council the following funding for your application:
Prokram Request Staff Recommendation
Certified Local Govt. Assist. $19,000 $25,000
Since it is unusual for us to award more than is requested in any proposal, a few words of explanation are
in -order. After receiving, your application, we were made aware that the amount requested didn't cover the
costs associated with the services you provide for the City. Therefore, we increased the amount of the
award for 1999 to keep up with inflation, knowing that the HPC's requests have been $19,000 a year for
the past several years. However, we should meet prior to writing the contract so we can discuss this
increase and be sure both the City and the HPC have a common understanding concerning what it will pay
for.
We are currently in a one month public comment period, lasting from September 30 to October 30, 1998.
Enclosed you will find a list of all projects Teceiving funding for the 1999 Program Year. You are urged
to submit comments during this period on these recommendations which will become part of the public
REDEVELOPMENT BUSINESS ASSISTANCE FINANCIAL & PROGRAM
ANN E.
