Review <br />The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County has handled the following <br />items of business during the past thirty days: <br />Guest speaker at Portage Manor Luncheon <br />(Met with the Board of Director, County Commissioners, County Legal Counsel to answer <br />question regarding the National Register nomination for Portage Manor. The end result was a <br />motion by their board to re -consider the previous motion, which was "against" the nomination. <br />The main contention was the "additional jumping through hoops" that they claim would cause <br />them undo hardship when using Federal money.) <br />Archeology dig and probing in Leeper Park <br />(Conducted by the Archeology Department of IU at South Bend, under the direction of Dale <br />Quantris, Departmental head. Results: carriage drives, formal rose garden located.) <br />St. Joseph County Strategic Plan Hearing <br />(Director Ed Talley attended this public meeting held on October 28 at Adams High School. <br />This was one of a series of meeting which were held during the months of October and <br />November throughout St. Joseph County.) <br />East Wayne Street Liaison Member Meeting <br />(Mr. James Hasse of the East Wayne Street Local Historic District came to the office for about a <br />one hour meeting. Topics were: street light project, new guidelines, invitation to attend one of <br />their meetings in November. Several days later he returned following a review of the new <br />guidelines books with some questions and corrections. The meetings were positive and <br />constructive.) <br />Global Information System Meeting <br />(A series of meetings are being conducted by The Polis Center; IUPUI, Cavanaugh Hall; <br />Indianapolis, Indiana; with Kathy McCarter AIT Director. The Polis Center was hired by the <br />St. Joseph County Commissioners to conduct a series of meetings so that data could be <br />collected to aid in the planning of a GIS which will supposedly <br />PAGE 1 <br />
