Review The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County has handled the following items of business during the past thirty days: Guest speaker at Portage Manor Luncheon (Met with the Board of Director, County Commissioners, County Legal Counsel to answer question regarding the National Register nomination for Portage Manor. The end result was a motion by their board to re -consider the previous motion, which was "against" the nomination. The main contention was the "additional jumping through hoops" that they claim would cause them undo hardship when using Federal money.) Archeology dig and probing in Leeper Park (Conducted by the Archeology Department of IU at South Bend, under the direction of Dale Quantris, Departmental head. Results: carriage drives, formal rose garden located.) St. Joseph County Strategic Plan Hearing (Director Ed Talley attended this public meeting held on October 28 at Adams High School. This was one of a series of meeting which were held during the months of October and November throughout St. Joseph County.) East Wayne Street Liaison Member Meeting (Mr. James Hasse of the East Wayne Street Local Historic District came to the office for about a one hour meeting. Topics were: street light project, new guidelines, invitation to attend one of their meetings in November. Several days later he returned following a review of the new guidelines books with some questions and corrections. The meetings were positive and constructive.) Global Information System Meeting (A series of meetings are being conducted by The Polis Center; IUPUI, Cavanaugh Hall; Indianapolis, Indiana; with Kathy McCarter AIT Director.
