STANDARDS and MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE <br />Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County <br />Application 1998-0217 <br />- - 60500 Bremen Highway (SR 331) - - - <br />Martha, Joann and Adrian met with owners, Robert and Sherri Montel on April 8th. <br />The members looked at the wood siding, noting its overall condition and <br />concentrations of severe rot. Several alternatives were discussed. <br />The recommendation from the Standards and Maintenance Committee to the <br />Historic Preservation _Commission is to offer two options: <br />A) Concurwith the prepared staff report and recommendation allowing the <br />- - - -- --- -- existing vinyl siding to remain and the existing wood siding to be retained, - ---- <br />repaired and painted. Although portions of the existing siding are rotten and <br />require replacement, overall the wood clapboard siding is not being repair. <br />B) Allow vinyl siding to be installed, however significant architectural details will be <br />retained including decorative dentil trim, oval window with modified keystone <br />elements, gables with shingles and trim. The owner proposes to retain the flared <br />skirting detail between the first and second floors with a vinyl alternative. It is <br />recommended that the staff assist the owner is determining the best solution to <br />install vinyl siding with least amount of detriment or impact on the character of <br />the house and details. <br />0SNI 198 <br />
