CERTIFICATE-OF APPROPRIATENESS STAFF REPORT <br />STANDARDS <br />The Preservation Guidelines for Local Landmarks: <br />F. -Signs <br />No neon or flashing signs will be permitted unless they.are'original' to the <br />structure. Billboards and supergraphics will also be disallowed. Only one <br />appropriate.identifying sign will be permitted per business. <br />RECOY.MENDATION ' <br />` The'applicant proposes a roadside - business identification sign for the new <br />business at this site. A plan for expansion of this building was recently <br />approved the HPC in-connection with this change of tenant—The proposed <br />sign is 9 feet in overall, height and 4 Feet in width exclusive of its timber <br />frame post supports. The design is iri the mode of the "country - style:' decor.' <br />which is currently popular and which - is consistent'witli the farm -yard , <br />atmosphere of the Landmarks and motif of-the subject commercial development. <br />Staff recommends approval of the sign as• submitted. However - although Staff ' <br />finds the sign to.be consistent with the historical character of the Landmark, <br />it may be at variance.with the sign requirements of the county with regard to <br />size and location. Staff recommends approval with - this caveat. Any change in <br />- the sign design resulting from other, ordinances or regulations will require <br />review as'an by this commission. <br />DBD ' <br />3/12/98 <br />
