Recommended
New site work should be based upon actual knowledge of the past appearance of
the property in photographs, drawings, and newspapers.
RECOMMENDATION
The necessity of this improvement arises from concerns of residents in the
nearby River -Bend Local Historic District regarding annoying motor noise from
pumping equipment at this location. This pump enclosure structure'and comfort
station probably dates from around 1950 and is therefore not recorded in - the
1993 IHSSI. Following recent approval of this Water Works pump is noise was
found to be disturbing. after shrub planting failed to adequately muffle this
noise, Staff worked with Water Works personnel in developing this mock -up of a
sound attenuating fence with the intention of making it Appear like a simple
w6od gate. The gate is fabricated from stock fence sections with bracing added
to reinforce the materiai.to withstand hinge mounting.
Tile gate seems to be effective in sound attenuation.' Staff -finds it acceptable
as a solution the problem but would-recommend trimming the stockade effect
from the top of the gate to be more in keeping with the Georgian building
which it abuts. Staff recortvnends approval with the above condition.
DBD
7/28/93
